Sparano: New starting QB Moore's strengths are deep ball, quick set-up mechanics

Among other things Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano discussed with the Finsiders Monday on MiamiDolphins.com was what new starting quarterback Matt Moore brings to the field.

Moore will set up shop behind center for Miami when the Dolphins face the New York Jets Monday night. Moore is filling in for Chad Henne, who was put on Injured Reserve last week after sustaining a shoulder injury early in the Dolphins’ Week 4 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

“The guy throws the deep ball very well,” Sparano said. “… I think he can get the ball up and down the sidelines and on the middle of the field very well.”

Moore completed a 31-yard pass on his first attempt against the Chargers and finished the day going 17-for-26 for 167 yards and an interception.

Sparano added that Moore does a good job keeping plays alive with his feet and that his set-up mechanics are “really quick,” which allows him to get passes off under pressure.

“He has a good command with some of the blitz stuff,” Sparano said.
