Another injury forces Levitre to move, again

Buffalo Bills center Eric Wood tore a ligament in his right knee Sunday in a loss to the Cowboys and was placed on Injured Reserve.

With that, left guard Andy Levitre will again slide out of his position – this time to the right – to take over snapping duties. Levitre had been playing at left tackle the last three games, filling in for injured starter Demetrius Bell and backup Chris Hairston, though Hairston is expected to be ready to go this week.

“The thing about Andy is he’s so smart and such a competitor,” Bills coach Chan Gailey told the media Monday, noting that Levitre took some snaps at center last season. “He’s so valuable because he’s good and he’s versatile.”

Gailey added that he expects Bell to at least be on the practice field this week.

Running back Fred Jackson talked to reporters about how tough it was to lose Wood for the season but reiterated that the Bills will continue with its next-man-up mentality.

“He’s the lynchpin of that line,” Jackson said of Wood. “It’s tough but we’ve got guys that are ready to step in and make plays. I’m sure more than anybody he wants to be here to see this thing through.

“To lose a guy like that up there is definitely tough but we have guys that are willing to step in and try and take his role. Hopefully we can keep things rolling.”

Buffalo travels to Miami to face the Dolphins Sunday.
