Bills experimenting with early trip to West Coast

By Nick St. Denis

The Buffalo Bills are traveling to the West Coast to take on the San Diego Chargers Sunday, and they'll be flying Friday instead of the usual Saturday.

While the altered schedule may throw off Buffalo's routine, Bills coach Chan Gailey said the team is using the extra day to adjust to the time difference.

"There are two trains of thought on going to the West Coast," Gailey told the media Wednesday. "Just like it is, two trains of thoughts for those guys coming from there to here. Even though I think it’s a little different going from here to there in my experience."

"... you’re doing a walk through at a different place; you’re staying at a hotel for two nights. That’s different but your body’s getting acclimated to the time and hopefully that helps you."

The early trip is an experiment for the Bills (5-7), who probably figure they might as well try new things now that a trip to the playoffs is basically out of reach.

"To be honest with you this is a test run," Gailey said. "If it goes well, we have to go out there twice next year, and then we’ll evaluate it at the end of this trip and see what we thought."
