Fitzpatrick: Contract extension hasn't impacted play

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was averaging a 95.5 quarterback rating a game entering his team's Week 7 bye.

Fitzpatrick came out of the midseason break with a $59 million contract extension and completed nearly 78 percent of his passes while throwing two touchdowns against the Washington Redskins. He put up a rating of 116.4, and the Bills were 5-2 at the time.

Since then, Fitzpatrick's quarterback rating has averaged 62.5 per game and the Bills have lost six straight.

"I would say that the contract has no impact on the way I play, the way that I approach the game, the dedication, the way I’m in here working with these guys," Fitzpatrick told the media Monday. "The biggest thing is I think we’ve played some better teams. I think it’s been a struggle for all of us."

Fitzpatrick completed just 38.2 percent of his passes Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, throwing no touchdowns and two interceptions, including a pick-6.

"Unfortunately the last six games we’ve had a lot more questions than answers," Fitzpatrick said. "It’s something we’re going to continue to try to figure out and continue to try to work through. It’s just something that’s there right now and something we’re trying to find answers for."
