Rex: Eli might be most accurate downfield thrower

BY NICK ST. DENIS

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan loves to talk about his quarterback in Mark Sanchez, but he's pretty fond of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning as well. Ryan would just prefer his guy has the better game Saturday when the Jets and Giants square off.

"Well, first off, look at the God-given ability that he has," Ryan told the media Tuesday. "He’s a Manning, so that goes without saying. It’s in his blood. He’s smart, he can make every throw. The guy might be the most accurate quarterback, down-the-field thrower in the league."

Ryan has a point there. Manning has completed more 40-plus-yard passes than any other quarterback this season (15). He connected on the third-most passes for 20 yards or more last season.

"So he has tons of talent, he has a lot of weapons around him," Ryan said. "Remember I said he was an elite quarterback early in the year. He is an elite quarterback. I hope he’s not an elite quarterback on Saturday."
