Patriots free agent Anderson to visit rival Dolphins

BY SEAN DONOVAN

Free agent defensive end Mark Anderson has scheduled a visit with the Dolphins, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Anderson had a breakout season for the Patriots in 2011, recording 10 sacks in a reserve role. His career has been rejuvenated after plateauing since his 12 sack performance for the Bears as a rookie in 2006.

The former fifth round pick out of Alabama was in talks with the Patriots to return, but those negotiations have reportedly stalled. It is possible that Anderson is only planning to use Miami as leverage to help his cause in those contract talks, but Miami's interest is genuine.

The Dolphins are definitely in the market for a pass rusher opposite star Cameron Wake and are expected to used their No. 8 overall pick to fill that need. That could change if Miami's tenuous quarterback situation necessitates that they use or trade that draft pick.
