Jets' RT Hunter calls himself 'weakest link' last year

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Wayne Hunter wasn't very good last year, and he's not afraid to admit it. Not like there's much to deny.

"I was the weakest link last year," the Jets' right tackle told reporters Thursday, according to Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger. "Last year I played like a rookie, this year I'll play like a nine-year vet."

Hunter went on to state that he's currently the Jets' starter on the right end of the offensive line.

That's fine, for now, but Hunter is certainly on thin ice this offseason after allowing 11 sacks, 11 quarterback hits and 32 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Jets have failed to present any real training camp threat to Hunter's starting gig via the draft or free agency. Maybe they're banking on offensive line guru, now-Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, to coach him up.

Either way, it wouldn't hurt to add some depth at the position, as unproven third-year tackle Vlad Ducasse  is likely Hunter's only real competition as of now.
