Phins' Messam to undergo 2nd surgery in 5 months

BY NICK ST. DENIS

With veteran Reggie Bush, second-year pro Daniel Thomas and 2012 fourth-round draft pick Lamar Miller occupying the Dolphins' backfield, running back Jerome Messam was a longshot to crack Miami's final roster.

The former Canadian Football League star might be more of a longshot than we originally thought.

Messam, who the Dolphins signed in February, acquired a torn left meniscus in his left knee during last CFL season, and he tweeted Monday that he'll be having a second surgery in just five months.

"Trying to stay positive about tomorrow, its hard tho when you have two surgeries in 5 months. #faith," Messam wrote.

Messam's physical recovery obviously isn't going very well, and he did recently admit that the Dolphins' system is "pretty different" from the concepts of the CFL and that "there's a lot to digest."
