Dolphins sign 5th-round LB; Pats, Jets ink reserves

BY SEAN DONOVAN

The Dolphins signed fifth-round pick linebacker Josh Kaddu to a four-year deal this week, according to the team's website.

Kaddu had 108 tackles and 10 sacks in 37 games at Oregon. He is a speedy, athletic linebacker who the Dolphins hope has a high NFL upside.

Though projected to be an outside linebacker, Kaddu's primary contributions this season will probably be on special teams.

He will likely be asked to bulk up before becoming a full time contributor to the defense. Kaddu, along with Jonathon Martin, has participated sparingly in the team's OTAs due to finishing up the final semester of college.

The Patriots signed offensive lineman Jamey Richard this week, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe.

New England also worked out offensive linemen Brandon Keith and Stephon Heyer along with Richard earlier in the week. Richard has started 11 games at three different positions in four seasons with the Colts.

The Jets added fullback Fui Vakapuna, according to Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal. Vakapuna was a Bengals' seventh-round pick in 2009 but has only seen the practice squads of the Bengals, Colts, and Cardinals so far. Chances are his fortunes won't change with John Conner and Josh Baker already on the Jets' roster.
