Wishful Thinking: Week 13 playoff rooting interests

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The Miami Dolphins (5-6), New York Jets (4-7) and Buffalo Bills (4-7) are clinging to their mathematical postseason lives.

Miami faces the red hot New England Patriots (8-3), but the Jets have a very winnable game with the Arizona Cardinals (4-7) coming to town, and the same goes for the Bills, who host the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9).

While each team needs the others to lose, they do have some common rooting interests outside the division. Here they are:

Lions (4-7) over Colts (7-4) in Detroit.
Texans (10-1) over Titans (4-7) in Tennessee.
Ravens (9-2) over Steelers (6-5) in Baltimore.
Chargers (4-7) over Bengals (6-5) in San Diego.

Analysis:

The Ravens should handle business against the Charlie Batch-led Steelers, and the Texans likely won't have a problem with the Titans, though Tennessee is pretty much done at this point, anyway. The other two should be tight games.

Buffalo and New York are most likely to be winners in this scenario, with the Dolphins probably losing to the Patriots and at least two of the outside games probably going in their favor.

Good luck.
