Report: Jets plan to name new GM by Thursday

It's almost over. Finally, it's almost over. Reportedly.

The New York Jets will name their new general manager Thursday, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. The team is making its final rounds of interviews Wednesday.

Pittsburgh Steelers cap guru Omar Khan and Seattle Seahawks executive John Idzik look to be the front-runners for the gig, though sources told La Canfora Jets assistant general manager Scott Cohen is being considered.

Former Broncos GM Ted Sundquist has been a reported potential "sleeper" candidate, while former Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo and New York Giants scouting director Marc Ross are out of the mix.

The thing seemed to be all but wrapped up last week when it was perceived that San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble was the clear-cut frontrunner. However, Gamble fell out of the race, and the media has had an extremely tough time reading the pulse of the hunt since.

Gang Green's somewhat lengthy search has been interpreted by many as a sign that no one wants the job, but it can be also be assumed that they're trying to be as thorough as possible considering the messy situation Mike Tannenbaum's successor will inherit.
