Patriots make signing of former CFLer Vega official

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Almost a month ago, the New England Patriots "reportedly" signed defensive end Jason Vega of the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Today, we can drop the "reportedly."

The Patriots officially announced the signing Tuesday. Vega represents one half of the team's CFL influx, as New England also recently inked former Toronto Argonauts defensive lineman Armond Armstead.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Vega, who played college ball at Northeastern, tallied 12 sacks and 66 tackles, in two seasons with Winnipeg, where his contract expired Friday.

“I think I will probably have my hand in the ground most of the time, and I’ll be moving in to three-technique in different situations,” Vega told ESPN Boston of what he thinks his role will be in New England.

The Massachusetts native worked out for the Patriots in December.
