Bills giving quarterback Geno Smith a closer look

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Barring something dramatic, West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith won't be for the taking at No. 8 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.

But the Buffalo Bills are doing their due dilligence.

The Bills are holding a private workout with Smith, who is widely regarded as the best signal-caller in a weak class, Friday, according to the team's website.

Smith will likely be had at No. 2, 3 or 4 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders or Philadelphia Eagles, respectively. But if he falls to Buffalo, Buddy Nix will have an interesting choice to make.

The Bills' interest in Smith could also be a ploy to water down their perceived fondness of Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib, not that it'll have much effect.

In my opinion, Buffalo would prefer Smith goes early so they can scoop up Nassib and not have to worry about the potential backlash of passing over Smith.
