CJ2K: There could be controversy with Greene

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Shonn Greene spent most of his tenure with the New York Jets in a somewhat by-committee backfield with no drama.

Greene signed on with the Titans last week to work alongside Chris Johnson. Wednesday, Johnson expressed some (or a lot) of disdain regarding Greene's place on the team's running back depth chart.

“At the end of the day, I think there’s a chance it could turn into some controversy," Johnson told The Tennessean's Jim Wyatt regarding Greene's presence, "but that is nothing to worry about right now. I am hoping for the best.”

I don't care how you finish the statement. Predicting an in-team controversy at your position is an incredibly selfish look, especially when it follows comments like these:

“I have never been a big fan of the two-back system, so I don’t know how we plan on using him. I’m not afraid of competition, but I was thinking we’d maybe get a draft pick for the other back. And you don’t give a guy that kind of money to be just a goal-line guy and in tough-yardage situations.”

And,

“And I don’t mind a guy getting a carry or two. But if I am the main guy and it is supposed to be my team … it shouldn’t be an issue.”

And,

"... But that’s not my decision — I am not the head coach or the GM — so I just have to deal with what they give me."

Meanwhile, Greene previously said he understands "this is C.J.'s backfield" and that he's just there to supplement Johnson's skillset.

Maybe Greene could supplement Johnson's lack of leadership and team-first mentality.
