Awful headline aside, Mike Tannenbaum is switching careers.
The New York Jets' former general manager, who was fired after the 2012 season and has been working for NFL Network since, recently joined the Chicago-based sports agency Priority Sports & Entertainment, where he will serve as President of the company's new Coaches, Front Office & Broadcasters Division.
According to Forbes.com, Tannenbaum will "oversee all contract negotiation and representation of basketball and football coaches for both professional and college sports from his office in New York."
Tannenbaumed GMed the Jets from 2006-12 after spending a decade in various other front office positions.
“For us to be able to add an executive of the caliber of Mike Tannenbaum is an absolute home run for our company and our clients,” CEO Mark Bartelstein said in a statement. ”We couldn’t be happier to have Mike on board. We are extremely excited about establishing the new division, which is a perfect fit for Priority Sports & Entertainment.”
This is actually a pretty cool spot for Tannenbaum to land, especially after dealing with Darrelle Revis and the New York sports market for so long.
Tanny was always a guy who could impressively cram numbers and pull off stellar personnel moves, but he seemed to lack a sense of the chemistry required to make a group of players fit together. He'll now be able to stick to the financial and advisor-type stuff, which should serve him well.
