Goodson at Jets' practice, Spikes not at Patriots'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

As the New York Jets and New England Patriots resumed their respective OTAs this week, both had notable happenings in their attendance.

According to the New York Post, recently-arrested Mike Goodson practiced with the Jets Tuesday after skipping activities last week, a plan Goodson's lawyer said the running back and team agreed to. (photo: June Rivera, Flickr)

Goodson, who pleaded not guilty to drug and gun charges, faces his next hearing on the second day of the Jets' three-day mandatory minicamp, which will commence June 11-13.

Meanwhile, the Patriots also had a particular player miss last week's part of OTAs, but their no-show isn't going to be fashionably late.

The Boston Globe's Ben Volin reported Tuesday that inside linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was New England's only missing player last week, won't show to OTAs but plans to attend minicamp.

Spikes is working out on his own as he prepares to play out the final year of his rookie contract with the Patriots. The former second rounder tallied 92 tackles, seven passes defensed, five forced fumbles and a sack last season.

As for Goodson, the former Oakland Raider was slated to battle for a primary role in Marty Mornhinweg's West Coast-style offense, though his pending legal issues and the Jets' trading for former New Orleans Saints tailback Chris Ivory puts his future in limbo.
