Patriots add depth at guard with Green signing

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Thanks to stellar coaching and leadership by offensive line guru Dante Scarnecchia, the New England Patriots' front has been one of the most consistent in the NFL for years.

Scarnecchia was given another tool to work with Monday when the team signed former San Diego Chargers guard Tyronne Green. Green's agents announced the move via Twitter.

However, the former fourth-rounder out of Auburn obviously didn't do enough for San Diego to retain his services. He spent four seasons with the Chargers.

The latest addition to the offensive front will give Nick McDonald some competition in camp to become the team's top reserve behind Dan Connolly and Logan Mankins, as Donald Thomas, who held that role last season, was lost to free agency.
