"It's one of the things where it's zero-tolerance with stuff like that," offensive lineman Willie Colon said. "It's sad. Mike could have been huge for us."
Gang Green has yet to see what either Colon or Goodson -- both free agent acquisitions -- can contribute to their squad. While Colon, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, will have an opportunity to prove his worth, Goodson, most recently of the Oakland Raiders, might not.
"... I was kind of anticipating seeing how he was going to do in OTAs," Colon said. "... A lot of guys were upset. They knew the type of ballplayer (he was)."
A few weeks ago, new Jets general manager John Idzik cut a pair of practice-squaders who were also arrested for being idiots. He'd be well-served doing the same in this case, though the team claims it is still letting the legal matter develop.
The sure-handed and speedy Goodson was a frugal and smart (at the time) addition to new offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's West Coast-style offense. If Goodson is a goner, returning Jet Joe McKnight will get a fair shot at assuming the role Goodson would've held.
The silver lining in all of this is that New York did trade for former New Orleans Saints running back Chris Ivory at the end of April, and Ivory looked to be the primary ball-carrier regardless of which pass-friendly tailback he would share the backfield with.
