Leach talks to resume after Ireland's vacation

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The Miami Dolphins and free agent fullback Vonta Leach have been in no rush to strike a deal despite strong mutual interest.

They'll get to it when they get to it, but first things first -- Jeff Ireland needs a breather. (photo: The Brit_2, Flickr)

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Ireland, the Dolphins' general manager, is on vacation. So while head coach Joe Philbin is eagerly awaiting the veteran and former All-Pro back's fate, Ireland won't be doing business until he returns to team headquarters.

That implies the Dolphins are not concerned about Leach signing on with another team any time soon. The former Baltimore Raven had reportedly been talking to his last team, as well as the New York Giants, while being courted by the Dolphins.

This offseason, Miami has always been the most likely destination for Leach.

As Salguero notes, the 31-year-old Leach is seeking a multi-year deal (who isn't?). If the Dolphins gave him one, they'd have to re-evaluate where they stand with Jorvorskie Lane and Charles Clay.

It'll all come together once Ireland finishes his piƱa colada.
