Marrone's plan for Monday night scrimmage

BY NICK ST. DENIS

With the Buffalo Bills a week and a half into training camp, head coach Doug Marrone will conduct a live intrasquad scrimmage Monday evening.

Marrone cut the team's Sunday practice short so the players could be well-rested for their first dress rehearsal, and after practice, he broke down the team's plan for Monday.

"We’re going to come out here, stretch, pursuit, have some individual and do some special teams. Early on, some seven-on-seven. Take some little breaks. Special teams will be involved in the scrimmage. They’ll have about two in-field drives, probably 12, 12 and six with the others. We’ll do that twice.

"Then we’ll have a little bit of a more controlled scrimmage. We’ll go red zone, make sure we get enough red zone in. And then we’ll do goal line and then we’ll end it up with a series of two-minute. One series probably for each."

Many eyes will be focused on what kind of evening rookie E.J. Manuel can put together. Manuel is reportedly sliding past veteran Kevin Kolb in the battle for the team's starting quarterback job, and a solid showing Monday night could do wonders for his stock.

Kolb tweaked his knee by slipping on a mat at practice Sunday, but Marrone said he thinks Kolb will participate Monday.

Neither signal-caller will be throwing to the team's top pass-catcher Stevie Johnson in the scrimmage, as he's currently sidelined with a hamstring ailment. Tight end Scott Chander, however, will participate.
