Jets move Santonio Holmes to active roster

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Santonio Holmes's progress in recovering from his Lisfranc injury had been questionable all summer, but Thursday, he took a step forward.

A day after the New York Jets' training camp came to a close, Gang Green announced Holmes was removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list and added to the active roster. A Week 1 start all of a sudden isn't out of the realm of possibility.

According to Brian Costello of the NY Post, Holmes was recently cleared to begin football activities but opted against returning to the field. Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters earlier this week that Holmes "is in great shape."

Holmes's response? "Looks can be deceiving."

Regardless, Holmes wasn't expected to play in any preseason action. He'll have a couple weeks to get up to speed before the Jets host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis.
