Willie Colon: Jets motivated by being written off

BY NICK ST. DENIS

A lot of people think the New York Jets won't be worth a damn in 2013. The Jets aren't those people.

"I think half the NFL thinks we should just pack it up now," Jets guard Willie Colon said Thursday, via Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday. "That's all the motivation I need."

Gang Green is coming off a 6-10 season that resulted in everyone in charge minus head coach Rex Ryan getting replaced. Much of the on-field personnel has been turned over, as well.

Incumbent quarterback Mark Sanchez is dueling with rookie Geno Smith for the starting job, and Ryan is considered in some circles to be a lame duck this year. All that, coupled with the "circus" campaign the media has been pushing the last two years, and not many people are taking the Jets seriously.

ESPN ranked the Jets dead least in their preseason power rankings -- behind some pretty awful teams.

"I'm pretty sure a lot of teams already have us checked off on their schedule," Colon, entering his first year with the team, said. "That's the bottom line. We have to show up on Sunday and punch a lot of people in the mouth and wake them up."
