Geno 'extremely disappointed' in 'piss-poor' game

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Geno Smith played like a rookie quarterback Sunday.

The, well, rookie quarterback, threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles in the New York Jets' 38-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans. All four turnovers were converted to touchdowns for the other team.

“Extremely disappointed in the way I took care of the ball today,” Smith said after the game, via The Star-Ledger. “I mean, I was just piss poor. I guess it’s a part of being a rookie, but I don’t look at it like that.”

Smith threw an interception on the second play of the game, and the Titans scored with the short field. Tennessee scored its second touchdown two possessions later following Smith's second interception.

The first-year signal-caller lost a fumble on a scramble prior to the Titans' next touchdown, and Tennessee scored again late in the game after Smith was sacked near the end zone. He lost the ball trying to change hands behind his back.

The Jets are dealing with the inevitable speed bumps of starting a rookie quarterback. And that's OK. But at 2-2, New York needs to turn the mistakes into meaningful lessons before it's too late.

“One of these days, we’ve got to learn from them, and it better be soon," Ryan said. "We better learn in a hurry."
