Jones finding success from inside of line

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Chandler Jones is a defensive end. But not completely.

The New England Patriots have been moving the second-year defender to the inside of the line on occasion this season, and Jones has found much success at that position through two games.

According to Christopher Price of WEEI, Jones lined up on the interior of the line on 18 of his 64 defensive snaps against the New York Jets Thursday.

"[Patriots coach Bill] Belichick came up to me and asked me to play [the position] and I'm going to do anything to help this team win," Jones told reporters after the game. "He told me to play [defensive tackle] and that's what I did."

One of Jones's two sacks on Jets quarterback Geno Smith came when he was lined up over the guard, and the other was on a move that ultimately had him rushing through the inside of the Jets' offensive line.

"Chandler's been working hard every day in practice, man, so it's good to see him get on the board and then get another one," Patriots defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, who also had a sack Thursday, said. "I know he's ready to go."

Jones took a handful of snaps closer to the middle of the defensive front in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills and helped collapse Buffalo's blocking unit on multiple occasions.
