Another knee injury sidelines Manuel another week

BY NICK ST. DENIS

"Is this really happening again?"

That's what Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel said he was thinking when he sustained his third knee injury of the season last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"I just taped it up and kept playing, but the onset after something like that happens it’s going to get stiff and sore on you," Manuel said Wednesday, via BuffaloBills.com.

That stiffness and soreness has led to coach Doug Marrone announcing that Manuel will sit during the Bills' divisional bout with the Miami Dolphins Sunday. All parties insist, however, that Manuel will be a go for Buffalo's Week 17 matchup with the New England Patriots.

"It’s a part of (the game), but nonetheless I’ll get a chance to play against New England and finish the season strong," Manuel said.

Manuel, who nearly missed the start of the season to injury, was sidelined for four straight games later on to an LCL sprain, including Buffalo's first meeting with the Dolphins. He returned Week 10 and has started every game since.

Thad Lewis will get the nod in place of Manuel for the fourth game this season, with rookie Jeff Tuel backing him up. Lewis led the Bills to a 23-21 victory over the Dolphins in October.

"I didn’t get a chance to play the Dolphins the first go round and I wanted to play them the second time, but coach made the right decision," Manuel said. "It’s for the team to help us win."
