Playoff odds: Dolphins 55 percent, Jets 8 percent

BY NICK ST. DENIS

How big was the Miami Dolphins' win over the New York Jets in Week 13? Big.

With the Dolphins' and Jets' Sunday victories over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders, respectively, both teams' playoff chances improved -- the Jets by a little and the Dolphins by a lot.

According to playoffstatus.com, the Dolphins have a 55 percent chance of making the playoffs, with a 53 percent shot at the final Wildcard spot, and a one percent chance at earning either the fifth seed or the division title.

The New England Patriots (10-3) have the division all but locked up, owning a three-game lead over the Dolphins (7-6) with three games to go. The teams do meet next week, as do the Dolphins and Jets (6-7) Week 17.

But back to Week 13. If the Jets beat the Dolphins and last week played out the way it did, their roles would be reversed. That game could be the one either team looks back on as the difference-maker depending on how the next three weeks shake out.

The Buffalo Bills (4-9), meanwhile, are out, with a less than one percent chance of snagging the final Wildcard spot.
