Vinatieri 'disappointed' when Patriots fans boo him

BY NICK ST. DENIS

What have you done for me lately?

That seems to be the general attitude among dedicated NFL fans. So it's no surprise that even a kicking great such as Adam Vinatieri catches flack when returning to Gillette Stadium.

Vinatieri played an important role in the Patriots' three Super Bowl victories in the early 2000s, but the Indianapolis Colts uniform he's donned the last seven years had drawn some distain from the Patriots faithful.

The veteran kicker gets it, but he doesn't always like it.

"I'm disappointed that sometimes they boo the crap out of me," Vinatieri told 98.5 The Sports Hub this week, via CSNNE.

Vinatieri said New England still holds "a very special meaning" to him and that he thinks the boos get less severe as the years go by. After all, it was the Patriots who decided to let him walk.

"I still feel like there's a strong connection with [Patriots fans]," he said. "There's a lot of great memories there that will never go away."

In his very first season switching teams, Vinatieri's Colts beat New England in the AFC Championship en route to a Super Bowl victory.
