While nursing shoulder, Sanchez had knee procedure

BY NICK ST. DENIS

With all the free time, why not?

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had a minor procedure on his knee while recovering from the season-ending shoulder injury he sustained last preseason, According to Brian Costello of The New York Post.

Costello's source said the "maintenance" arthroscopic surgery on the knee wasn't entirely necessary, but they figured it would be a good time since Sanchez couldn't play, anyway.

Sanchez is apparently clear of rehab for the knee and has been throwing with the shoulder, which was operated on in October.

The Jets have a decision to make on Sanchez, who is owed a $2 million roster bonus in March and is slated to consume $13.1 million in cap space in 2014. He's expected to be released if Gang Green can't find a trade partner.

There's reportedly a market for the 27-year-old signal-caller, who was on the rise his first three seasons but dropped off in 2012 before missing all of 2013. At this point, he has all but officially lost his job to 2013 second-round pick Geno Smith.
