If Jets fans weren't worrying about acquiring a cornerback before Monday, it may be a good time to start.
Defensive backs have been a hot commodity in free agency thus far, and Gang Green seems pretty intent on finding a replacement for veteran corner Antonio Cromartie. Problem is, options are becoming few and far between -- aside from Cro himself.
The team's latest attempt at an upgrade, soon-to-be 28-year-old Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, was in New York for days visiting both the Jets and the G-Men. He landed with the latter, however, signing a five-year deal worth nearly $40 million, according to Adam Schefter.
That leaves John Idzik's Jets with limited cards left to play.
The team released Cromartie more than a week ago to free up cap space, though he's the team's best option currently left on the market. He negotiated with the team to restructure his contract last season, earning a base salary of less than $900K on top of his roster bonus, and he's said publicly he'd restructure again to stay a Jet.
He did, however, make some statements this weekend that showed he's at least pondering other options.
The team's only other viable options at the moment are to either strike a trade or wait until the draft to procure some talent. Based on comments from beat writers Monday though, it's hard to see Idzik blinking first, whether it's with Cro or another potential acquisition.
