Dolphins make a not-so-exciting non-football hiring

BY NICK ST. DENIS

In the day leading up to the NFL draft, what's more exciting than a team announcing the hiring of a new senior vice president-slash-chief financial officer?

Well, everything, of course.

The Miami Dolphins did just that Wednesday, naming Chris Clements, formerly of IMG, as the team's new SVP/CFO.

“We’re excited that Chris has decided to join us here at the Dolphins,” Dolphins president and chief executive officer Tom Garfinkel said, via a press release. “Chris is a collaborative and strategic leader and his extensive experience in operational finance and growing sports businesses will prove to be a tremendous addition to the dynamic leadership team that’s in place.”

According to the release Clements will report directly to Garfinkel and will be responsible for the club and stadium’s financial, insurance, banking, business systems, and purchasing operations of the organization.

Clements previously spent the last near-two decades in various leadership roles with IMG, most recently as senior vice president, business unit chief financial officer, sports and entertainment in Cleveland, Ohio.
