Pryor's former coach: 'It's always business with him'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Calvin Pryor is from Port St. Joe, Florida, a city of fewer than 4,500 people.

Bye, bye, small town.

The former Louisville safety was taken by the New York Jets Thursday in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, instantly pitting him in the biggest sports and media market in the world: The Big Apple.

Pryor's former coach, however, doesn't think the bright lights will faze him.

"It's always business with him," former Louisville coach Charlie Strong said, via Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday. "He's not a guy that jokes around a lot. So whenever he takes the field, he's going to go out there with a business approach and it's all about him getting better.

"Whether it be walk-through or whenever we were game-planning, he's always been one of those guys who's just so focused and so locked in because he just wanted you to coach him and he wanted every small detail to make him a better player."

A detail-oriented centerfielder such as Pryor should fit right into Rex Ryan's defense, especially one who brings along the hard-hitting, physical game Pryor does.

Pryor accumulated 175 tackles, five interceptions, 11 passes defensed and seven forced fumbles in the past two seasons as a Cardinal.
