Kevin Faulk: Belichick 'right up there with Lombardi'

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

Ex-Patriot Kevin Faulk still lives and breaths football, just in a slightly different setting.

Now three years removed from his 13-year stint with New England, the 38-year-old Louisiana native is back in his hometown of Carencro, where he coaches high school football and teaches physical education.

He may not be in the huddle with likes of Tom Brady and Troy Brown anymore, but his contact with his former teammates remains. And his feelings about his former coach, Bill Belichick? Let's say they haven't diminished much in three years, either.

"[H]e's really intelligent," Faulk told Perry Pitre of WWLTV.com. "He has the highest football IQ I've ever seen. I think he's right up there with Vince Lombardi. The man lives football, eats football and sleeps football."

Faulk had equally flattering things to say about his former signal-caller, saying Brady's competitiveness and work ethic are what keep him constantly above the curve.

"[W]orking with him, you understand why he's so dang competitive and so dang good," he said. "He works dang hard. He's not the fastest guy, he's not the strongest guy, but he's got a great head.

"He understands everything that's happening on the football field. He sees everything. He works so hard, that by the time the game happens, it's second nature for him."

Faulk finished his career ranked fifth all-time in team rushing and receiving yards, tallying more than 7,300 yards from scrimmage. He also amassed more than 5,000 yards on special teams and had a combined 33 NFL touchdowns.
