Wilson to approach match with Holmes like any other

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Cornerback Kyle Wilson has spent time in practice opposite Santonio Holmes when the pair were teammates from 2010-13.

The next time they face off, it will be for real. Wilson will be lining up opposite Holmes Monday night when the New York Jets host the Chicago Bears.

"I’ve got a little familiarity with him, but still it’s not going to change anything," Wilson said, via NewYorkJets.com. "I’m going to play what I see. I’m definitely familiar with him and I’m going to go out there and play my technique and make a lot of plays."

Holmes comes to MetLife Stadium in his new digs after the Jets let him walk via free agency last offseason. While the Jets opted to go in a different direction, the team is well-aware of what Holmes is capable of.

"When this guy's healthy, he can be a game-changer," Jets coach Rex Ryan said, noting Holmes' knack for the game-winning play. Holmes was a bonafide star in his later years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and first season with the Jets.

Now, Holmes is playing a complementary role to Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, two bigger wideouts. He also has shed his No. 10, to the amusement of his former head coach.

"He looks kind of funny in that 14 jersey," Ryan quipped.

Jokes aside, the Jets' secondary has its hands full with Chicago's group of pass catchers. Holmes will mostly serve as a decoy, but Wilson had better be on his game.
