Ravens sack Dolphins' postseason hopes

BY NICK ST. DENIS

That should just about do it.

The Miami Dolphins couldn't protect their quarterback and couldn't protect their end zone Sunday, squandering their playoff hopes with a 28-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

With the loss, the Dolphins drop to 7-6 and essentially out of the hunt, while the Ravens improve to 8-5 and a game out of both the last Wildcard spot and the AFC North lead.

Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked six times, with three QB takedowns credited to the Ravens' Elvis Dumervil. Tannehill totaled 227 yards through the air with a score, but Miami mustered just 249 total yards on offense.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, meanwhile, amassed 269 yards passing with a pair of aerial touchdowns, adding another score on the ground.

Flacco threw an interception in the end zone in the second quarter but bounced back with a 97-yard TD drive later in the half and a 75-yard scoring drive on the Ravens' next possession in the third quarter.

Brian Harline caught the only touchdown for the Dolphins, who were 4-for-12 on third down in the game. R.J. Stanford had Miami's interception.

With three games to go, the Dolphins aren't mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but they'll have to win out--including a victory in New England next week--and get a whole lot of help elsewhere.
