Jets drop Hooey as Mathis becomes available

The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran guard Evan Mathis this afternoon. Shortly after, the New York Jets dropped reserve offensive lineman Sean Hooey.

Is there a connection? Could be, writes NJ.com's Dom Cosentino:
"I'm spitballing here, but the dots are easy to connect," writes Cosentino. "Mathis, 34, figures to get interest from any number of suitors. But the Jets could use another offensive lineman, and the Hooey release means they now have an open spot on their 90-man offseason roster."

According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, the Miami Dolphins are expected to pursue Mathis.
"Sources say there’s no doubt the Dolphins are interested in Mathis but it will come down to money and how much he’s willing to accept," writes Abramson. "Multiple teams are expected to pursue him."
