Dolphins can Coyle, once again promote from within

Monday, the Miami Dolphins fired coach Joe Philbin and promoted tight ends coach Dan Campbell to interim head coach.

The firings continued Thursday, as defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, architect of the league's 30th-ranked defense, got the boot.

Coyle's crew has given up a ridiculous 160 rushing yards per game thus far, and it's failed to produce turnovers for the offense.

"Every one of those guys up front has demonstrated in their career they can be productive players," Lou Anarumo, the team's former defensive backs coach and now fill-in for Coyle, said Thursday. "That's going to be our charge as coaches to get that out of them going forward."

The team also promoted defensive assistant Jeff Burris to assistant defensive backs coach to work with the cornerbacks, while Miami's other assistant defensive backs coach, Blue Adams, will cover the safeties.

Campbell said Thursday's coaching moves will be his last, as the Dolphins work to right the ship during their bye week.
