McCoy out with 'minor' injury; Bills mull Rice signing

The running back depth chart for the Buffalo Bills went from bad to worse Monday, and its lack of bodies has the team thinking about some pretty interesting alternatives.

Following LeSean McCoy's hamstring injury during practice Monday -- an issue the Buffalo News reported should be resolved by Week 1 -- Buffalo is running out of options for fill-ins and has reportedly begun looking to some veteran bodies for assistance, namely Ray Rice.

Per Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports 1, the team has started "internal discussions" on the possibility of a Rice signing, although nothing at this point is concrete.

And while the thought of McCoy and Rice as No. 1 and 2 on the roster may have some Bills fans salivating, it seems like the move is far fetched at the moment, given the severity of injury to the respective members of the backfield.

UPDATE: According to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com, the team signed RB Cierre Wood Wednesday.

The hope is that Fred Jackson will be back in 10 days or so, according to coach Rex Ryan, and Karlos Williams' undisclosed ailment is likely to have him back in the next two weeks.

With RB Williams injury 'serious,' Bills sign Seale

It's only mid-August, but the Buffalo Bills running backs are so banged up you'd think it was Week 13.

With three ball carriers -- Fred Jackson, Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown --  all sidelined with various injuries, the torch was handed to Karlos Williams this week for some reps and a legit shot at the No. 2 spot.

Instead, Williams was hospitalized with an unknown ailment Monday, an issue that is "serious" and could keep the rookie off the field for some time, according to the Buffalo News.

That forced the Bills to make some roster moves, bringing in rookie running back Ricky Seale, who played his college ball at Stanford, as well as veteran linebacker Quentin Groves.

Groves comes in to fill the role left void by Ty Powell, who was placed on IR after suffering a knee injury.
