This offseason, Thomas McGaughey became the New York Jets' third special teams coordinator in as many seasons.
Even though he's one person removed from the legendary Mike Westhoff, who spent 13 years with the Jets before retiring after the 2012 season, the former LSU assistant is well aware of how large the shoes that come with the job are to fill.
After all, he almost had to fill them a few years ago when Westhoff was forced to take a break from coaching for health reasons.

Jets start fresh on special teams, hire McGaughey
BY NICK ST. DENIS
The New York Jets experienced a bit of a hangover from the departure of longtime special teams coach Mike Westhoff last offseason.
Westhoff's protege in Ben Kotwica was underwhelming in his first season leading the group, though the underwhelming personnel he was working with deserved some blame, as well.
Either way, Kotwica bolted earlier this offseason to assume the same position with the Washington Redskins, and Wednesday, the Jets officially announced his replacement.
