Jackson on Bills' GM: 'He's a man of his word'

By Nick St. Denis

Fred Jackson went down to a season-ending injury Week 11 in the midst a breakout campaign. In fact, the fifth-year Bills running back was on his way to as good of a 2011 season as any player in the entire NFL.

Earlier this week, Jackson was notified by the league that he would not be eligible for the Pro Bowl because he was on the Injured Reserve list. While that was disappointing, Jackson is probably more concerned with getting paid.

Earlier this year, Bills general manager Buddy Nix promised Jackson would be next to sign a hefty deal after the Bills signed quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a $59 million extension.

"It’s not something that I’m going to worry about right now," Jackson told the media Wednesday. "Like I said, I put faith in Buddy (Nix) and that’s all I can do. He’s a man of his word so I’ll have faith in him and see what happens."

Jackson gained well over 1,000 total yards in just 10 games this season, but he'll be 31-years-old next season, which could make Nix and Co. think twice about an extension. Jackson is under contract through next season.
