Avant: Playing the Jets is like playing the bullies

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Philadelphia Eagles receiver Jason Avant called the New York Jets "bullies," and as far as Rex Ryan is concerned, there's probably no greater compliment.

" I think it’s a great challenge for us as receivers and also for our team because they’re like the bullies," Avant told the media Wednesday regarding the Eagles' upcoming bout with the Jets. "They’ll run the ball at you, a lot of them play man-to-man, so it’s like playing bullies or your big brothers.”

Avant and the rest of the Eagles' lethal offense will be up against one of the best pass defenses in the league, though that defense will be without its quarterback in Jim Leonhard, who was lost for the season with a knee injury.

Still, Avant is prepared for a battle, as he'll occasionally be face-to-face with the best cornerback in the league in Darrelle Revis.

“His ability to be patient is his biggest asset," Avant said of Revis. "Usually when you have guys that are fast and quick, most DBs are frantic and they can’t get in a stance. He’s really calm and knows he’s the best, so he sits there and waits for you to declare your move. He’ll sit right there in front of you.”

"You have to go out with your ‘A’ game. For the guys in this locker room, you will not have a better opportunity. This is what you play the game for, to play against the best players. I think it’s a great challenge for us as receivers and also for our team because they’re like the bullies."

The Jets are 0-8 all-time against the Eagles and 0-4 in Philadelphia.
