Choice looks to make most of opportunity with Bills

By Dan Begnoche

Two weeks after being picked up off waivers, the Buffalo Bills' newest running back, Tashard Choice, has one thing in mind: production.

Buffalo is the third stop so far this year for the 5-foot-10, 218-pound fourth-year back. But to him, that’s not an issue. He's just focused on going out and making the best of his opportunities.

“You always know, you always got to make it happen every time you step on the field no matter what the situation is,” Choice told reporters Wednesday. “So, that’s how I look at it and I’ll continue to look at it that way.”

Choice played six games with the Cowboys earlier this season before being shipped to Washington, where he lasted all of one game before landing in Buffalo. Choice got a little action this past week against the Titans with five touches for 20 yards, including a reception for seven yards.

Buffalo is hoping that Choice and C.J. Spiller can fill in the gap Fred Jackson left after joining the Bills’ extensive Injury Reserve list with a broken leg.

“He did a good job for us. He came in on some of the third down stuff,” quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said Wednesday. “Luckily for him he had been with Chan (Gailey) before, so it’s not like he was starting over. He had a little bit of a base. He’s shown us a little bit of something, just in terms of what he’s been able to bring on third down, getting some of the tough yards and the short yardage stuff and being an asset for us in the pass protection stuff.”

Gailey and Choice were paired up at Georgia Tech from 2005 to 2007, Gailey’s last three collegiate years before heading to the NFL. In that time, Choice ran for 3,365 yards and averaged nearly five yards per carry. Now being back in a system he understands with a coach who understands him, Choice is ready to get back to that kind of production.

“A lot of the things I understand, I understand what they expect of me and they know what I do," Choice said. "... Being somewhere now, I’m healthy where I can go out there and perform. Now it’s just time to play.”
