Greene a yard away from 1,000, Rex guarantees it

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Rex Ryan makes a lot of guarantees. His latest one is his most probable ever.

Jets running back Shonn Greene is a single yard away from amassing 1,000 yards rushing for the season, which will be the first time the third-year tailback has reach that mark.

"I'm gonna guarantee he goes over 1,000," Ryan told the media Friday. "... He had some tough sledding early in the season, but he really started coming on and I think he's hitting his stride."

Greene's young career has been defined by his postseason play. He has 502 yards in six postseason road games over the past two seasons, including three touchdowns, all of which were either go-ahead scores or game-sealers.

"This is the time of year when he usually does his most damage," Ryan said.

The Jets hope Greene gets a chance to build on those playoff numbers, though they'll need a win Sunday and lots of help.
