Report: Manning "priority" in Dolphins' quest for QB

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Of all the quarterbacks on Dolphins' radar, Peyton Manning is No. 1. Shocker, right?

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported Wednesday a team source told him via email that "the priority is Manning," though Manning's future is still in the hands of the Colts.

Manning would become an unrestricted free agent if Indianapolis doesn't pay him an option by March 8 that would guarantee Manning $28 million over the next four years.

Speculation also surrounds the Dolphins in terms of whether or not Miami will seek Packers backup quarterback Matt Flynn. Chatter about Flynn was an immediate effect of the Dolphins hiring former Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.

The Manning thing is kind of a no-brainer. If he's available, you go after him, even with the big money risk and his questions with the injury. Sure, he's going on 36. And he's not Tom Brady. But he's still Peyton Manning.

Considering Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks ever and only about half a dozen teams have really good players calling signals, the Dolphins will be in an all-out brawl with plenty of teams if he does in fact get released into the free market.
