The New York Jets are off from practice Thursday as they rest for a preseason bout with the Atlanta Falcons Friday night.

Quarterback Matt Flynn, however, has plenty of catching up to do having just signed with the team a day ago.

ESPN's Rich Cimini suspects Flynn will "spend a long day in the classroom."

Gang Green bring in Matt Flynn on one-year deal

Matt Flynn is once again on the move, officially signing with the New York Jets Wednesday.

The deal -- one year, per ESPN's Adam Schefter -- gives Gang Green some added depth at the position following the loss of Geno Smith and gives Flynn a job with his seventh NFL team.

"I'm happy to be here, happy for the opportunity and I'm just trying to get acclimated," Flynn said at his press conference Wednesday, via NewYorkJets.com.

Flynn will likely jump right into the No. 2 spot behind Ryan Fitzpatrick, pushing Bryce Petty back into the reserve role.

Flynn has started seven games in his career and appeared in 53 total games.

RPT: Patriots add Matt Flynn to quarterback corps

With the New England Patriots preparing to enter the 2015 season without their star veteran signal-caller for the first four games (at least as of now), the team has reportedly sign Flynn.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini first reported the move.

Flynn, a seven-year veteran who started his career with the Green Bay Packers, bounced around for a couple years before returning to Lambeau to back up Aaron Rodgers, upgrades the Patriots' depth at the position.

Evan Rodriguez's off-the-field alcohol issues while with the Chicago Bears are what put him out of a job. His character — but more importantly his play — will decide the length of his stay in his new gig.

News of rookie E.J. Manuel's progress with his knee injury yielded the release of fill-in backup quarterback Matt Flynn, which opened up a spot on the Buffalo Bills' roster for the 25-year-old fullback Monday.

Rodriguez appeared in 12 games last year for Chicago, working out of the backfield and on special teams.

Bills sign Flynn, expect Lewis to play Sunday

Buffalo Bills quarterback Thad Lewis is expected to start Sunday, but he'll likely do so with a new backup.

The Bills announced Monday they signed free agent signal-caller Matt Flynn, who was already en route to Buffalo for a tryout for the team when Lewis sprained his foot in a Week 6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lewis is currently serving as the Bills' starting quarterback after getting called up from the practice squad in the wake of the news that rookie E.J. Manuel would be sidelined for half a dozen weeks.

'Phins offered Flynn half of what Seahawks proposed

New details have surfaced about the Dolphins' failure to sign free agent quarterback Matt Flynn.

Dolphins sources told NFL.com's Jeff Darlington that Miami offered Flynn $4 million per year to sign with the Dolphins, which was about half of what the Seahawks offered.

Flynn signed with Seattle on March 18, which frustrated a fan base already disappointed by the fact that Peyton Manning chose to sign with the Broncos instead of Miami.

Embattled general manager Jeff Ireland has been blamed for failing to sign all of the free agents that the Miami fans have wanted signed. The public resentment toward Ireland culminated in a fan rally at the team facility on March 20.

It might simply be the case that head coach Joe Philbin, who was Flynn's offensive coordinator for four seasons, would not sign off on Flynn's potential to be the franchise quarterback. That fact would paint a different picture about Ireland than most fans are currently seeing.

Dolphins negotiating with Smith, missed on Flynn

The Dolphins are negotiating a contract with free agent quarterback Alex Smith, according to the Denver Post. The team is reportedly prepared to offer a deal worth around $8 million annually.

Miami failed to sign quarterback Matt Flynn, who visited South Beach on Saturday. Flynn chose to sign a three-year, $26 million contract with the Seahawks.

Missing out on Flynn was another tough break for Miami, as Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin was Flynn's coordinator in Green Bay and owner Stephen Ross is as willing to spend as any NFL owner.

Smith had by far his best season in 2011 after being selected by the 49ers No. 1 overall in 2005. He led San Francisco, which is currently in pursuit of Peyton Manning, to a 13-3 record and the NFC Championship game.

Flynn visits Dolphins, should decide 'this weekend'

With a name like Matt Flynn, you'd expect the free agent quarterback to be somewhere celebrating St. Patricks Day on March 17.

But Flynn is spending his Saturday visiting the Dolphins, one of the teams looking to sign him. He paid the Seahawks a visit on Thursday and Friday, and apparently he was happy with how it went.

Flynn wanted to visit with the Dolphins before making a decision, which, according to his father, should be coming sooner than later.

"Logic would tell me he would do something this weekend or thereabouts," Flynn's father, Alvin Flynn, told the Palm Beach Post. "He doesn't want to drag this out." In regard to the Seattle visit, Alvin Flynn added, "He said it was a really nice place, and he enjoyed it, but he wanted to look at both of them. That was the way he felt going in."

Free agent Manning officially out of Dolphins' reach

Peyton Manning personally called the Dolphins to tell them that he would not be signing in Miami, according to a report on NFL.com. This officially removes a team from a race many thought was the favorite when it all started.

Manning was released from the Colts earlier this month after 13 seasons and four MVP awards. He has reduced his choices to Tennessee and Denver, according to the report.

Miami's front office is dedicated to the search for a quality starting quarterback and is running out of options.

The Dolphins are expected to meet with free agent quarterback Matt Flynn this weekend, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Before he speaks with the Dolphins, Flynn is visiting the Seahawks. Provided he leaves Seattle without a contract, the Dolphins should have a chance to persuade the former Packer to play in South Beach.

The league year started Tuesday, and teams were allowed to begin contacting available free agents. With that, the Dolphins made a few transactions and had some contact with high profile free agents.

Miami still awaits the decision of free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, who met with the Dolphins' coaching staff on Monday.

The Dolphins and Browns appear to be going head-to-head to sign free agent quarterback Matt Flynn, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The two teams are expected to exchange contract offers with Flynn's agent today or tomorrow. Miami will negotiate with Flynn while still in pursuit of Manning, though it's believed that their chances to sign Manning took a hit when their best receiving weapon, Brandon Marshall, was traded to the Bears.

Dolphins still alive but losing steam in Manning race

Peyton Manning spent his weekend meeting the Broncos and Cardinals. Absent from that group are the Dolphins, a team once thought to be the front-runner to land the four-time NFL MVP.

The Dolphins' fanbase is understandably anxious, as they are desperate to land a quality quarterback.

The truth is that the situation is out of owner Stephen Ross and general manager Jeff Ireland's hands. It is up to Manning if they even get a meeting to try to convince the future Hall of Famer to play for the Dolphins.

Rumors have indicated that Denver and Arizona were the only remaining contenders, but ESPN's Chris Mortenson tweeted recently that Dolphins coach Joe Philbin would have an opportunity to speak with Manning away from team facilities.

That meeting would reportedly be almost exlusively football-related and not include the full organizational pitches that other teams have rolled out.

Also reported by ESPN was that though Manning originally intended to sign prior to Tuesday's 4 p.m. start of free agency, a decision is not likely until later in the week. This could create a difficult situation for Miami, as it may have to juggle the wait for Manning's decision and the pursuit of another solution at quarterback in case Manning signs elsewhere.

'Phins left with fewer options after Rams/'Skins trade

The Rams traded their coveted No. 2 overall pick to the Redskins for their No. 6 overall pick, as well as their second round pick and first-rounders in both 2013 and 2014, according to FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer.

The Redskins have their sights set on Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, whose stock rose through the combine and is poised to be drafted as their franchise quaterback.

The trade has major implications for the Dolphins in their search for a quarterback, as the Browns may now be exclusively targeting free agent quarterback Matt Flynn. Cleveland was in a better position to trade up for the chance to draft Griffin, as they have two first round picks this year at No. 4 and No. 22.

Miami had also reportedly contacted St. Louis about the pick, and they are obviously out of the running for RGIII.

Report: Manning "priority" in Dolphins' quest for QB

Of all the quarterbacks on Dolphins' radar, Peyton Manning is No. 1. Shocker, right?

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported Wednesday a team source told him via email that "the priority is Manning," though Manning's future is still in the hands of the Colts.

Manning would become an unrestricted free agent if Indianapolis doesn't pay him an option by March 8 that would guarantee Manning $28 million over the next four years.
