After 3-day visit, Williams signs huge deal with Bills

BY NICK ST. DENIS

A few days spent in Buffalo turned into half a dozen years for Mario Williams.

Williams signed a six-year deal with the Bills Thursday. The contract will reportedly make the two-time All Pro defensive end the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported that Williams can make up to $100 million in the new deal with $50 million guaranteed.

If he can stay healthy, Williams should be just what Buffalo needs to bolster what was a porous pass rush last season. The Bills certainly pulled all the stops in getting Williams, whether it was offering him an incredible amount of money to including former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly in the recruiting process.

"The endless possibilities and the great guys upstairs in the front office just sold me immediately," Williams told reporters Thursday. "It’s one of those things that you don’t get many chances and opportunities like this to be the guy who can help the team get over the hump and that is definitely what I am here for."

Williams amassed 53 sacks in six season with the Texans. However, he was placed on injured reserve in each of the past two seasons. Williams suffered an inflamed hernia late in the 2010 season and missed 11 games last year with a torn pectoral muscle.
