Quick take on Dolphins' cut-day activity, look ahead

BY SEAN DONOVAN

After a terrible preseason, it's clear the Miami Dolphins need to add talent to their roster -- and fast. By many reports, they are planning to do just that. But before they can, they needed to subract a few current players by Friday's 9 p.m. deadline.

Cuts:
WR Roberto Wallace, WR Clyde Gates, WR Jeff Fuller, WR B.J. Cunningham, WR Chris Hogan, G, Ray Feinga, T Will Barker, T Lydon Murtha, T Andrew McDonald, DT Isaako Aaitui, DE Ryan Baker, LB Jamaal Westerman LB Gary Guyton, LB Cameron Collins, LB Shelly Lyons, CB Vincent Agnew, CB Quinten Lawrence.

Note: G/C Ryan Cook was also traded to Dallas for a seventh-round pick. CB Kevyn Scott and DE Jarrell Root were both waived due to injuries.

Analysis:
It's notable that Miami would cut Wallace and Gates, as the Dolphins are desperate for wide receivers, and either one of those would be in the top-six on the depth chart. It makes it more likely that Miami would make a move to bring in another wideout. Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Legedu Naanee, Marlon Moore and Rishard Matthews are the remaining receivers left on the roster.

The Dolphins are also reduced to three active players at cornerback -- Sean Smith, Richard Marshall and Nolan Carroll. They will need to find some players on the waiver wire or through trade.
