Brady's salary cap hit on Patriots upwards of $21M

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Citing NFL salary documents, Tom E. Curran of CSNNE reported Thursday that quarterback Tom Brady is "into the heavy part" of his September 2010 contract.

How heavy? Brady's cap hit for the New England Patriots is $21.8 million in 2013, up from last year's hit of $8 million.

Joel Corry of The National Football Post also points out to us that Brady's restructuring of his contract last year to make $7.2 million in room for the 2012 cap contributed to the high number this year. (photo: Jeffrey Beall, Flickr)

Before Brady restructured last year, his 2013 cap number was $18.2 million, according to Corry.

The Patriots are likely already working at moving some money around, again, to make more room within the projected $121 million cap, as Brady and two other prominent players on the team will take up 35 percent of the cap.

Defensive tackle Vince Wilfork will reportedly cut into the cap to the tune of $10.6 million, and guard Logan Mankins will eat up $10 million.
