Revis elaborates on reaction to trade speculation

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Darrelle Revis is the best player on the New York Jets. Just ask him.

When speaking to NFL Network's Andrea Kremer in a recent interview, the All-World cornerback elaborated on his reaction to reports last month that the Jets were looking trade him. (photo: Marianne O' Leary, Flickr)

"I know it’s a business – just call me; don’t have it lingering out there," he said, via the Star-Ledger. "I need answers and I’m not getting any. Just the fact that that was put out there instead of contacting your best player on the team. If that’s how you want to do business, then that’s fine.”

Revis responded to the trade speculation with a tweet saying he was "speechless." Jets general manager John Idzik, who had yet to make his inaugural press conference when the reports came out, said earlier this month that he reached out to Revis.

It's unsure when Revis's interview with Kremer occurred, so it's possible he was explaining his feelings before Idzik contacted him. Regardless, he wasn't happy at the time.

Revis has a year remaining on his contract and will go to the highest bidder at that time unless the Jets extend him now. Problem is, Revis wants to be the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL, and the Jets -- like almost every team in the NFL -- simply can't make that investment.

Gang Green would be best served shopping him now and at least getting something in return, unless he knocks down his asking price substantially.
