Santonio Holmes restructures contract with Jets

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The New York Jets continue to clear up cap space as the clock ticks closer to free agency.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday afternoon that receiver Santonio Holmes has agreed to restructure his contract, which will ensure he remains with the team in 2013. (photo: Marianne O'Leary, Flickr)

According to Connor Orr of the Star-Ledger, details of the restructure are unknown but that it is expected to provide "significant" cap relief.

Holmes was set to make $7.5 million in guaranteed money in 2013 and was on the books for another $3.5 million in non-guaranteed cash. Kimberly A. Martin of Newsday reported Holmes' cap number as $12.5 million prior to the restructure.

The Jets relieved themselves of nearly $4 million earlier Tuesday by cutting veteran nose tackle Sione Po'uha.
