Hernandez doesn't know why Pats signed Tebow

BY NICK ST. DENIS

It's not that Aaron Hernandez isn't happy Tim Tebow is in Foxborough. It's just that he doesn't know why Tebow is there.

Hernandez and Tebow were teammates in college at Florida, so unlike most of the members of the organization who were probably asked to comment on New England's signing the polarizing football player, Hernandez actually held a little credibility on the topic. (photo: Karen Cardoza, Flickr)

“There’s a reason why he’s here," Hernandez said Tuesday, via Tom Curran of CSNNE.com. "I actually don’t know the reason yet, but we’ll see.”

The now-fourth year tight end, who is easing his way back into action after undergoing shoulder surgery, said he was close with Tebow in college.

“It’s good to be back out here with him. He’s a great player and I’m glad to play with him," Hernandez said. ". . . He’s a football player. He knows how to make plays and I’m glad he’s on my team again.”

So there you have it. Bill Belichick has always done everything he could to tell the media and the public as little as possible, but it's nice to know that the players are sometimes as in the dark as we are.

And when all else fails, just call Tebow "a football player." After all, that label isn't yet as tired as the "sneaky speed" reference often made to white receivers or calling the Jets a "circus."
